Modern Farmhouse Versus Quiet Luxury

Modern Farmhouse Versus Quiet Luxury

Your dining room can be the heart of your home where people come to gather, make memories, and stories are shared. And guess what? Interior design trends evolve just like your family.  In our most recent This or That episode, one of our expert furniture buyers, Alexis, shows you how to update your Modern Farmhouse dining room into a contemporary Quiet Luxury gathering space—without breaking the bank!

What Is “Modern Farmhouse” Design?

Modern Farmhouse design is a style that blends the rustic charm of traditional farmhouse aesthetics using clean lines and contemporary elements of modern design. It creates a warm and inviting space by combining elements like natural materials, neutral color palettes, and a mix of modern and vintage furnishings.

As the centerpiece of the room, we used the Sutton Place Dining Table as a prime example of Modern Farmhouse style. It has clean lines, a neutral palette, and organic elements, including a natural wood finish top. We paired it with two, vintage-inspired tufted-backed chairs on each end, and four neutral, rustic dining chairs on the sides.

While Modern Farmhouse is still a classic style made popular in the 2010s (Thank you Joanna Gaines from HGTV’s show, Fixer Upper), you might feel ready to evolve your space into something equally timeless and accessible.

What Is “Quiet Luxury?”

“Quiet Luxury” is a growing trend defined by understated elegance, including high-quality materials and a focus on creating a sophisticated atmosphere. Quiet Luxury thrives on the use of texture, neutral tones, and organic elements, just like Modern Farmhouse, making it the perfect design trend to transition into.

Home decor personalizes any space, and here you can mix things up by layering home accessories, such as fuzzy throws over accent chairs or rugs with contrasting textures and patterns. Get creative with it—in our room, we used a cowhide rug as a tablecloth!

While Modern Farmhouse feels like a warm hug in your home, Quiet Luxury fits like a well-tailored coat. Both rely on natural finishes, clean lines, and neutral tones to define your room, but one is cozy and the other calm and luxurious.

The best thing about shopping at AFW is that you can transition your rooms for a whole lot less. Our This or That series shows you how to keep the most expensive piece of furniture (in this case, the dining table) and upgrade the rest for a totally new room.

So, whether you’re embracing the vintage-flair-meets-modern-functionality of Modern Farmhouse or upgrading to a crafted and contemporary Quiet Luxury style, AFW has top-quality, trending furniture and decor at prices that can’t be beat anywhere else.
